FAQs

What makes Seniors on The Move different from other moving companies?

We’re Certified Relocation and Transition Specialists (CRTS) and long-time members of the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM).  These certifications set us apart from other moving companies because we’re specially trained to cater to older adults and their families.

At Seniors On The Move you can choose from a number of unique services to make your move as seamless as possible for you. Part of the packing services includes making a floor plan to ensure your furniture fits your new space, making your bed, and setting up your bedside table the way you have always had it, so your new home feels comfortable and familiar to you from day one.

With the gentle and expert guidance of an experienced Senior Move Manager, older adults and families make the key decisions without the emotional and physical distress that can follow. As a result, they avoid the costly mistakes and remorse that often accompany such major lifestyle transitions.

At Seniors On The Move we do so much more than simply sort, settle, and move boxes; with a blend of professionalism and compassion, we take the worry (and work!) out of the move process. Your job is simply to enjoy your new living arrangements.

What does it mean to be a “Certified Move Manager"?

At Seniors On The Move we became certified by successfully completing the Certified Relocation and Transition Specialist (CRTS) Certification course. The CRTS Training specializes in the seamless approach to reduce stress and produce quality results focusing on client-based services that are personalized to meet the individual client’s needs and preferences.

We are also proud members of the National Association of Senior Move Managers (NASMM) and have met the NASMM standards of insurance and experience requirements prior to acceptance. As NASMM members we are committed to ongoing educational training which must reflect the NASMM commitment to professionalism and to working with older adults. We follow the NASMM Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice which can be viewed at their website  NASMM.org

A Senior Move Manager is professionally trained to assist older adults and their families with the physical and emotional aspects of moving or “aging in place.” At Seniors On The Move we are committed to providing the best possible service while performing such meaningful work.

What other services do you offer, besides packing and moving?

We offer a full-service clear-out (using our partners at Mini Binz), bringing items to the dump or, when applicable, donating to community services for you.

We can also facilitate an estate auction on your behalf, using an online auction partner MaxSold. This service includes the photography and cataloging of each auction item, and management of the auction process, as well as pickup of all the items. Our fee is captured from the sales proceeds first, so it may end up costing you nothing at all.

How much do Senior Move Management services cost?

Although it is virtually impossible to calculate exactly what a specific move might cost, Seniors On The Move will provide you with a written estimate when considering our services, which is estimated based on the number of services you request, how much property will be packed, and how much property is to be moved. We have a 3-hour minimum, and we will let you know how many of our team members will be needed for your job as part of the quote.

We try our best to ensure that the job comes within the quote; however, if there are changes or items added to the job, this will be reflected in the final invoice.

Once your job is complete, a final tally of the work completed will be presented in a written invoice for payment. This will be adjusted from the quote as needed.

Do you offer discounts if I'm a veteran or member of other group?

We pride ourselves on providing fair quotes for our services, and may provide discounts on a case-by-case basis only.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash on the day of the job, credit card (Mastercard & VISA) or e-transfer to info.seniorsonthemoveniagara@gmail.com.

How far in advance should we book a move?

The more time we have to coordinate, the better. That being said, there are natural times (such as the end or beginning of the month) where we may be booked up and unable to accommodate a last-minute reservation. We will make every reasonable effort to be available when you need.

Contact us with your moving date and for a quote.

Can you coordinate with retirement homes or senior living facilities on moving day?

We sure can! Seniors on the Move has relationships with many of the retirement homes and senior living facilities throughout the Niagara Region. We’re here to make your transition seamless.

Do you provide storage solutions if everything can't go to the new place?

We don’t manage any storage facilities ourselves, but are happy to coordinate with a storage facility to move any items in (or out) as needed.

How do you handle fragile items, heirlooms, or antiques?

With the utmost care and attention, we treat your prized possessions like they’re our own. Any fragile items will automatically be packed with extra padding and marked accordingly. For additional valuable heirlooms, antiques, or items that have an extraordinary value, we offer optional top-up insurance coverage to ensure that your valuables are protected.

Will you disassemble and reassemble furniture?

Most furniture items, such as a bedframe, will be disassembled and reassembled by our moving team. If you have specific needs or requests, please let us know in advance during the quote process.

I have family and friends who would like to help, is that possible and how would that work?

Absolutely!  On the day of the pack or move, once you’ve provided our team with your instructions, have your family or friends take you out for lunch. Let us handle the hard work!
